Hutchison Ports BEST – Greener than ever

On Friday 20th September, BEST participated in the global GO Green initiative. This campaign, in which Hutchison Ports participates since its beginnings and is now in its sixth edition, is celebrated at a global level.  The project aims to raise awareness about community responsibility and environmental sustainability.

Workers at BEST were given the opportunity to get to know the Delta del Llobregat Natural Area, which is adjacent to the terminal’s facilities. There, during the day, talks were held on environmental awareness and, with the aim of increasing plant diversity, aquatic plants were planted on the banks of La Laguna de la Illa. The aim of the campaign is to increase the richness of plant species in the wetlands.

Guillermo Belcastro, CEO of the Company, stated that “Best is one of the most energy efficient terminals, and with its semi-automatization has achieved a 56.4% reduction in direct CO2 emissions per TEU compared to manual terminals. The Company has a strong commitment to the environment. In addition, its commitment to connectivity and railway transport will enable a contrasted reduction of 80% in emissions.”

The GO GREEN Campaign is a joint activity between global port operators, including PSA, DP World, SIPG, Eurogate and the Port of Rotterdam.
