BEST joined the global GO GREEN initiative on Friday 22 October. This is the 8th edition in which Hutchison Ports Group participates. The project aims to raise awareness of environmental responsibility in each community.
BEST workers carried out an activity of replanting three species of aquatic plants on the shore of La Laguna de la Illa. The aim was to increase plant biodiversity in the area. They also visited the Llobregat Delta Natural Area, which is practically next to their facilities, and held talks on environmental and social awareness.
This activity is part of the company’s Sustainability Plan and is aligned with SDG 11 and 15 (Sustainable Cities and Communities; Life of terrestrial ecosystems).
BEST recently communicated its firm commitment to contribute to a sustainable supply chain by being one of the most energy efficient terminals that, thanks to the automation of part of its operations and the use of electric cranes, manages to reduce direct carbon emissions by 50% compared to a conventional terminal.
In addition, the company has been promoting the use of the train for the past 9 years to extend the Port of Barcelona’s area of influence. Thanks to this, in 2020, 110,000 lorries were taken off the road, saving 20,471 tonnes of CO2 through the use of the train.
